A 45-year-old Westbury man has been charged with the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend following his arrest on Wednesday in Uniondale, Nassau County police said.

Alvin Smith allegedly stabbed the woman multiple times in the neck and shoulder with a large knife Wednesday night, police said. The incident occurred as the victim, who was not identified, was walking on Nassau Round at 10:15 p.m., police said.

The woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Police did not list her condition.

Smith was placed under arrest after police located him on nearby Hill Street.

A knife was recovered at the scene, police said.

The victim has an order of protection against Smith, police said.

A motive was not provided.

Smith was charged with second-degree attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal contempt and aggravated criminal contempt. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
