Stephanie Genova of Massapequa Park lost her battle with uterine cancer on Monday evening, Jan. 5 at New York Presbyterian Hospital. She was 52 years old.
Genova was the director of the Town of Oyster Bay Preschool in Massapequa. Since its inception in 2008, she was the driving force in getting the preschool off the ground, and completely updating and reorganizing the entire preschool operation in the Town of Oyster Bay. In addition to guiding the Massapequa facility through a complete expansion and renovation, Genova was also responsible for restructuring the entire preschool curriculum. In doing so, she ensured that the children passing through the doors of the preschool program were prepared for their future educational endeavors.
“It was evident that she put her heart and soul into the program,” said Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto. “While the town had a very successful preschool program in Syosset for a long time, we always had a dream that we’d expand the operation. Stephanie Genova was the one who made that dream a reality.”
Genova was a graduate of Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn. She received her BA in Foreign Language from New York University in 1984 and a subsequent Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Stony Brook University.
She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Leonard Genova, and sons Jerome, 22 and Steven, 17.
