Paper, plastic, soda cans and more will see new life this Thursday at the Town of North Hempstead’s third annual Trashion Show.

Students from the nine schools across the town who participate in the School Recycling Partnership Program, which includes Westbury High School, have submitted their designs. All the clothes and accessories have been designed and made from recycled materials or items that would have ordinarily ended up in a landfill. Students will get to model these creations on the runway, which will be in the gymnasium of the “Yes We Can” Community Center.

“The ‘Trashion Show’ provides such a unique opportunity for students to express their creativity and imagination while also teaching them the importance of preserving our environment,” Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said.  “This event is another innovative way that the Town of North Hempstead educates students to become protectors of the environment while encouraging them to pass along the habit to the generation after them.”

The show’s winning designs will be displayed at an exhibit in February at the New York State Capitol Building in Albany.

The Trashion Show starts at 7 p.m. at the “Yes We Can” Community Center, 141 Garden St. in Westbury.
