The Blue Star Mothers recently formed their newest chapter at the Hicksville VFW. The Blue Star Mothers are mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers and female legal guardians who have children serving in the military, guard or reserves, or children who are veterans. They support each other and our children while promoting patriotism.
Chapter president Catherine Albergo says the group was formed to give moms in the area a more convenient place to meet and particpate.
“We do a lot. We’re known for sending care packages to troops, we do a lot of welcome homes at the airports, a lot of community work. We try to bring awareness during events,” said Albergo. “And we meet every month, which is a good way to support each other. It’s nice to be able to look at someone and not say anything, but that mother knows what you’re feeling.”
The group meets the third Thursday of every month at the Hicksville VFW, at 320 S. Broadway.
