Bright Season For Girls Swim

Led by eight year head coach, Patty Trongone, the Westbury girls swim team had a solid fall 2014 season. For their achievements, they had four swimmers selected to the All-Conference team. Collectively, the team was awarded with the Sportsmanship Award. This is given to one team by the officials of Nassau and Suffolk. For their grades, they were named a New York State Scholar-Athlete team.

There were a number of individuals who separated themselves by their performance. Jael Ferguson, junior, competed in Distance and Freestyle Events. Mariela Rosario, junior, also had a terrific season. She participates in the Mid-Distance and Sprint Freestyle. Finally, Denisha West, also a junior, was awarded for her times in the Individual Medley and Breaststroke.

The awards were the result of hours upon hours of hard work. According to Trongone, the team practices “five, and occasionally six, days per week of swimming, running, weightlifting and various dry land activities.”

The team was certainly not going to be outworked by their competition. “We are proud of our awards and honors earned this season. We are looking to become an even bigger and better team next year.”

Trongone noted that this roster was comprised of “mainly upperclassmen and that the team will definitely be looking for new swimmers.”
