JB and Abby Meyer are co-founders of Chief Graphix in Port Washington. The company specializes in custom car wraps but they also do so much more. They create helmet wraps, signs, logo designs, graphic designs and custom branding, booth wraps, banners, decals and office graphics to name just a few of their services.
Three years ago the Meyers decided to leave the corporate world and open their own business. They’ve never looked back. Business has doubled every year in the three years they’ve been open. They invested in a state-of-the-art website and they’ve also had great word of mouth. They recently changed the name to Chief Graphix from Chief Signs.
They wanted to open their business in the community they know so well. JB grew up in Manhasset and graduated from Manhasset High School, where he played goalie for the lacrosse team. He was inducted into the Manhasset Hall of Fame and made the All-Decade team. He also played lacrosse at the University of Virginia, where he was an All-American goalie.
JB and Abby have lived in Port Washington for 12 years. JB is a volunteer fireman in Port Washington and also a PAL coach. They have three sons in Sousa Elementary School. “Living and working in Port Washington has benefits,” says Abby, “including using the LIRR to make deliveries in New York City. It’s so convenient.” They have many local clients on Long Island as well as clients in New York City and elsewhere. They employ a staff of seven full-time employees and several part-timers. “All the work, from designing, printing and installation, is all done here in Port Washington,” says JB. “Because the jobs are done in-house from start to finish, we offer very competitive prices.”
They have all of the equipment on the premises including a garage to install the vehicle wraps. They use an HP flatbed 500 printer, which can print on substrate. They can print directly to reflective vinyl, wood, ceiling tile or PVC, among other materials. Their Multicam 3000 Router can create engraved signs and 3-D lettering. They even do carved signs with gold-leaf lettering. They’ve created signs for many local businesses, including Initial Stop on Main Street in Port Washington. The company has done large jobs of several hundred signs for a college or small jobs such as enlarged photo sign-in boards for a bat mitzvah.
JB says that 30 to 40 percent of their business is vehicle wraps. The wraps are eye-catching and the print quality is perfect. The company has wrapped 40-foot trailers, box trucks, commercial vehicles, fleets of company vans, and cars. They’ve even installed reflective graphics for Port Washington’s police cars and the sign at police headquarters.
They create retail graphics, wall graphics, political signs, banners, boat wraps, and brochures. They created car magnets for Sousa School and permanent fence banners at Schreiber High School. They created Central Park Summer stage banners in Manhattan. Chief Graphix can also help you create your own logo or graphic if you don’t already have one. Their custom lacrosse, football, baseball and hockey helmets are flawless.
There seems to be no end to the possibilities of what they can create.
