After over 30 years of performances, CancerCare’s Red Stocking Revue is still keeping the numbers fresh and upbeat. The quality of talent is close to Broadway caliber and the direction and choreography are
truly impressive.
Stage ads are long-time favorites of the Revue. Skit scripts or lyrics to popular songs are rewritten to promote sponsoring businesses. These are sometimes serious, but more often tongue-in-cheek acts that are always the highlights of the show. This year’s show featured a stage ad for the Port Washington News. The skit and “Those Were the Days” theme song from the beloved 1970s “All in the Family” sitcom centered on various sections of the Port News and had the audience rolling in the aisles.
Although it has been many years since at least one act didn’t include men dressed as women, their reputation was salvaged by a hilarious number of synchronized “swimmers” with the men wearing ladies bathing caps with big flowers. By the close of that number, a fisherman had caught a bathing suit top and a man-eating shark had joined the dancers.
The famous Red Stocking Revue kick-line dancers never fail to impress. The choreography and song selection prove the revue is fresher and more upbeat than ever before.
The Port Washington/Manhasset Chapter of CancerCare is grateful to the supporters who attended the performances, placed ads in the journal and otherwise sponsored or supported the revue.
