Deirdre M. Keating of Plandome, NY and Jupiter, Florida died peacefully at home surrounded by her family after a long struggle with lung cancer. She was eighty years old. Deirdre was born in the Bronx to Mary Z. and Michael H O’Brien. After receiving her BS from Marymount Manhattan College in 1956, she began her career at the Standard Brands Company. At Standard Brands, she worked in the test kitchen focusing on food photography for both print and televised advertising. She later taught Home Economics at Marymount Manhattan College.
She married Thomas C. Keating on November 6, 1958. They remained married until her death. They raised two children, Thomas M. Keating and Amy M. Keating.
A Manhasset resident for over 49 years, Deirdre was very active in the community. She was President of the School Community Association and a member of the Manhasset High School Booster Club. An active parishioner of St. Mary’s, Deirdre taught religious education and served on a number of committees. She enjoyed golf, tennis, baking, and spending time with friends and family. She was a member of Plandome Country Club and Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club in Florida.
She is survived by her husband Thomas, son Thomas, daughter Amy, her daughter-in-law Ann Marie and her three grandchildren, Colleen, Tommy, and Kelly. She was predeceased by her two sisters Enda Ryan and Frances Flannery.
The family received visitors March 8th at Farichild and Sons Funeral Home in Manhasset and a funeral mass was held on March 9th at St. Mary’s R.C. Church. She was interred at Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery in Flushing, NY.
