Movie: On The Town
The Plainview library presents two showings, 2:30 and 7 p.m., of the film classic On The Town. Three sailors on a 24-hour pass decide to soak up the sights and sounds of New York City, and maybe find romance along the way. Adapted from the Broadway musical by Betty Comden, Adolph Green and Leonard Bernstein, On the Town is one of the freshest, most exhilarating films turned out by the old MGM regime, with a great cast, featuring Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly and Jules Munshin. 98 minutes (unrated).

Breast Cancer Screenings
Nassau University Medical Center’s Mammography Van will be coming to Cantiague Park at 480 W. John St., Hicksville to provide breast cancer screenings for women over age 50. The screening will include a breast examination by a nurse, a mammography and instructions for breast self-examination. If it’s been at least a year since your last mammography and you are planning to receive an exam, you will need a prescription for the exam from your doctor (if you have insurance) and must provide any past exam films, if available. Women with health insurance will be required to make a co-payment. The mammography is free for uninsured women, based on eligibility guidelines. From 8:45 a.m. to noon. Appointments are required and scheduled on a first come, first served basis. The Plainview library and the Town of Oyster Bay CAPA Distinguished Artist Series present a concert event at 3 p.m. Let professional recording artists The Fabulaires return you to an earlier time when Doo Wop was king. With passion, enjoyment and fun they will bring back those romantic songs of the ‘50s and ‘60s, along with R&B tunes of later years, until you are captivated by their harmony and vibrant performance of each and every song.
Hugs for Sarah Memorial Blood Drive
The Sarah Grace Foundation for Children With Cancer will host a blood drive in loving memory of Sarah Grace Weippert. Healthy individuals are encouraged to donate blood between the hours of 10a.m. and 2:30 p.m. at the William P. Bennett Hicksville Community Center, 28 West Carl St. The Sarah Grace Foundation For Children With Cancer was created by the parents of Sarah Grace Weippert, who passed away from acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2002 at the age of 12. Movie: The Theory Of Everything
The Plainview library presents two showings, 2:30 and 7 p.m., of The Theory Of Everything. Based on James Marsh’s book, The Theory Of Everything tells the story of Stephen Hawking (Eddie Redmayne, 2015 Best Actor Oscar winner in this role), celebrated scientist and one of the greatest minds of his generation. The film follows Hawking from graduate school through his marriage to Jane (Felicity Jones) and beyond, during which time he is diagnosed with ALS and is gradually less and less able to control his own body. 2 hours 3 minutes. Rated PG-13.

Sinatra & Friends
The Plainview library welcomes attendees to this multi-media lecture with Jack Schnur in the auditorium at 7:30 p.m. In this tribute to entertainment icon Frank Sinatra, the singer/actor collaborates with many other Hollywood luminaries, in clips from films such as Anchors Aweigh, in which he dances with Gene Kelly, to television appearances, where Old Blue Eyes is shown performing with Judy Garland, Bing Crosby, his daughter Nancy (“These Boots Are Made For Walking”) and many other stars.

Ella & Frank: A Tribute
In this moving performance at the Plainview library, Rhonda Denet teams up with “Echos of Sinatra” vocalist Steve Kazlauskas for a show that brings audiences back to a time when two legends of American music, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra, brought audiences to their feet. Rhonda and Steve will sing the music of Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, George & Ira Gershwin and others, as they perform individual solos and duets made famous by Frank and Ella. Event is at 8 p.m.

China’s First Emperor
The Plainview library invites attendees to audio-visual presentation on the first emperor of China Qin Shi Huang and the Qin Dynasty at 2 p.m. Led by art collector and lecturer Ivy Chang, the lecture will enlighten attendees on Qin Shi Huang (260 B.C. to 210 B.C.) During the 37 year Qin Dynasty, major reforms were enacted and many significant landmarks were created, including the Great Wall. Event is rescheduled from Feb. 9.
