If you didn’t think it was possible to combine a child’s love of dogs and reading, think again. The Massapequa Library has created a “Read to a Dog” program called “Dog Tales.”
The recurring program allows children ages 5 and older to read to certified therapy dogs from Bide-a-Wee. The child gains confidence in his or her reading skills, while the dog, who is a great listener, sits in the child’s lap and enjoys storytime.
Registration is required for this event, so please call the library at 516-798-4607 ext. 320 if your child is interested in this fun loving activity.
You can still help by donating items to the shelter as well. The adoption center is always looking for the following items: leashes and harnesses, cat litter, dog food (Blue Bufalo), cat food (Fancy Feast, Wellness Brand and Friskies), dog and cat treats (BJs small biscuits for dogs and Temptations for cats), gently used blankets, dog and cat beds, bleach, wee wee pads, kongs, nyla bones, jolly balls toys, peanut butter, cat toys and cat nip.
