The Schreiber High School boys’ varsity lacrosse team will enter the new season with brand new state-of-the-art lacrosse helmets. The new helmets were made possible by a generous grant from the Peter and Jeri Dejana Family Foundation.
Their donation of 40 helmets to the Port Washington school district enables these young athletes to play the game with the highest safety rated head gear. It now frees up more room in the district’s budget to provide helmets to the Weber Middle School squad.
Schreiber High School Head boys’ lacrosse coach Tom Rooney is pleased with the acquisition of these new helmets. “The new helmets have the latest technology in them for dealing with concussion prevention,” said Rooney. This is a major concern for athletes, coaches and parents. Any time you can protect the players better is always a good thing.
The players are also happy with the latest and up to date lacrosse helmets. Senior player Conor Jenkinson feels good about the idea of these new helmets.
“I really like the new helmet,” said Jenkinson. “They are very comfortable and I like their look. It makes the team feel good that we have the best helmets out there on our heads.”
The Athletic Association of the Port Washington Schools (AAPW) acquires funds and grants for various athletic organizations through the district. They work closely with the schools, athletic director, coaches and parents to help the sports community be the best it can be.
