The Port Washington community turned out in tremendous numbers to HEARTS PW’s (Helping Enrich the Arts in Port Washington’s) second annual “The Red Party” on March 18. “The Red Party” is an annual event to celebrate HEARTS’ annual grant recipients and help raise funds for arts programming in the Port Washington schools. Diwan Restaurant was filled to capacity with partygoers decked out in red to symbolize their passion and love for the arts. Indian delicacies and nibbles were featured at the lavish buffet and drinks were flowing at the open bar. The Candy Bar with “scoop your own bags” and cupcakes from “The Crazy Cake Company” were surrounded by hungry guests. A long line of red Raffle Bags lined tables with prizes like an overnight in NYC, membership at MoMA, and tickets with reserved seating to Schreiber’s musical Anything Goes.
The opening act was “The Wiz Kids,” from The Wiz, the 2014-15 Curtain’s Up presentation, made possible by a HEARTS grant. The rousing finale was “Ease on Down the Road,” with the entire troupe singing and dancing through the crowd to a standing ovation. Smoking live jazz was performed by special guests, The Bach to Rock Staff Band, a talented professional band comprised solely of teachers from the Bach to Rock music school in Port Washington.
HEARTS President Michele Posner Goldman welcomed the packed crowd and Vice President Leigh Richards thanked everyone for their support. Special thanks are due to cochairs Michele Garfield and Jane Ronis and The Red Party committee. Save the date for HEARTS’ annual major fundraiser and community arts festival, PortFest, which will take place on May 16, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Schreiber High School (rain or shine). Join HEARTS for a fun-filled day of live professional and student bands, school-sponsored interactive art experiences, art exhibits, silent auctions, and concession stands, all while raising funds for arts enrichment in Port Washington.
