The Farmingdale School District recently alerted the community of an increase in fraudulent phone solicitations from groups claiming to be affiliated with the district. The district encourages residents to take the necessary measures to ensure the validity of any organization proactively requesting donations and reminds all residents and businesses that the Farmingdale School District will be represented by official district personnel.
“Community support is critical to enabling many of our student-led initiatives to succeed, and the district vows to do everything in its power to make certain any and all donations are used as they are intended,” said Paul Defendini, Assistant
Superintendent for Business of the Farmingdale School District. “We urge residents to be mindful of groups asking for donations under false pretenses and to take the necessary precautions. If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to one of our district buildings and inquire.”
The district suggests asking the individual requesting donations which school or organization they are representing and to then make a follow-up call to confirm before submitting a donation.
In addition, the district also suggests specifically avoiding groups that go by the name School Booster, Signature Sports and Sports Media—these have already been reported in the news and to the district’s administrative office as attempted scams within the Farmingdale community.
