Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto announced that a Towers of Freedom 9-11 Memorial ceremony will take place on Saturday May 23, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at the Towers of Freedom 9-11 Military Monument located at John J. Burns Park on Merrick Road in Massapequa. “The Town of Oyster Bay dedicated the Towers of Freedom Memorial Plaza last year to pay tribute to all those who lost their lives on 9-11 and recognize all branches of the military, NYPD, FDNY, PAPD and other first responders,” Supervisor Venditto said. “It honors those who gave their lives in the war against terrorism in the years that followed 9-11. I believe the ceremony will also serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made every day by the men and women of law enforcement and emergency services to protect our community.”
Supervisor Venditto stressed the importance of remembering all those who gave their lives defending the United States. “We owe a debt of gratitude that we can never repay,” he said. “Many have made the ultimate sacrifice so that the United States would indeed remain the Land of the Free.”
“In the aftermath of 9-11, we promised that we would never forget those lost and we never shall,” Supervisor Venditto said. “The brave men and women who raced towards the burning towers are heroes who stood up to evil and selflessly made the ultimate sacrifice to save others. Their memory, their courage and their sacrifice should always be remembered and it is fitting to do so on Memorial Day weekend, when we honor all those who gave their lives to defend our freedom.”
