An impressive 29 Massapequa High School students recently earned medals for high performance on the National Spanish Examination, qualifying them to apply for scholarships or travel awards to Spanish-speaking countries.
Seniors Vincent Coghill, Adriana Franco and Bridget Keegan were awarded bronze medals for achievement on the level five exam. On the level four exam, juniors Giogia Piantanida earned a gold medal, Sean Fiola, Tanner Knabe, Kaitlyn Lucey and Juliet Remi received silver medals and Olivia Abele, Raymond Cecora and Suzanna Storti earned bronze medals.
On the level three exam, sophomores Catherine Testaverde won a gold medal, Ruchy Aggarwal, Emily Chicoine, Alex Gordonson, Brian Margulies, Kelly McGuirk, Alison McKessy and Daniel Urli earned silver medals and Danielle Anzelone, Carmyn Bounamassa, Julianna Hartmann, Alissa Leone, Sabrina Montella, Natalie Murphy, Ariana Pittelli, Breanna Reda, Jamie Smith and Luciana Vernola received bronze medals.
“We are delighted to see so many of our students demonstrate proficiency on these exams and commend their teachers for their outstanding guidance and preparation,” said William Anderson, curriculum associate for World Languages.
The National Spanish Examination is an online assessment administered by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) to promote proficiency and assess a national standard. The exam was taken by more than 152,000 students in grades six through 12.
