Last Sunday, June 7, the Sid Jacobson JCC hosted the 9th annual Stronger Than Cancer 5K and Kids Color Fun Run.
Up to 160 runners took part in the race that helps support the JCC’s Nancy Marx Strength to Strength Cancer Wellness Program. The program provides exercise and supportive counseling geared to the specific needs of cancer survivors. Strength to Strength began 10 years ago with a vision to provide programming to cancer survivors and their caregivers, affording them the ability to feel comfortable to exercise regardless of their physical condition, while gaining support. Strength to Strength believes that together, as a community we are stronger than cancer.
“The members of the Nancy Marx Strength to Strength program look forward to the 5K each year to either volunteer or to walk,” said Randy Hight, the program’s coordinator. “It’s a great time to celebrate with friends and family and to say that they are stronger than cancer.”
The winner of the 5K was Jessica Donohue, 19, of Glen Head. She came in with a time of 17.50.5.
