The Schreiber track and field teams successfully competed in the NYS Track and Field State Championships held in Albany during the weekend of June 12 to 13. Eleven of the high school athletes represented the school for the festivities, and they did not disappoint.

The team’s female high jumper, Neve Divine, placed fifth in the state and sixth in the federation with a clearance of 5’4″. Divine, a senior, also won a medal at the championship games.

The girls 4×100 relay consisted of Jenny Aguiar, Laura Russo, Catalina Salvatierra, Beatriz Chiavarria and Christina Marinelli. Coach Jeremiah Pope’s girls finished sixth and also medaled in the tournament. The 4×400 team clinched their spot at the qualifier, where they ran an eight-second season best. From there, they advanced to the Federation Final, where the girls placed sixth, earning them All-Federation honors. The girls also set a new record at the tournament.

Geovany Mendez, Aaron Siff-Scherr, Joseph Levine, Peter Kirgis and Andrew Adelhardt made up the 4×800 team in the weekend event. Both teams were also honored at the Track Officials Dinner on June 16. The boys team took home the prestigious Nassau County Sportsmanship Award. For the girls, senior Jenny Aguiar was named Outstanding Female Track and Field Runner of the Year. She will run at Wesleyan University next year. With another historic season in the books, the Port Washington Track and Field year officially finished with a bang.
