The Nassau County Police report the arrest of a Middletown man for DWI on Sunday, July 19, at 1:37 a.m. in North Hills.
According to police, a Highway Patrol Bureau Police Officer patrolling westbound of the Long Island Expressway, observed Kingsley C. Chukwu of Middletown, operating a 2009 Honda failing to maintain lanes and swerving onto the right shoulder. A vehicle and traffic Law stop, detectives said, was initiated by turning on the emergency lights and siren at which time Chukwu exited at exit 32 and came to a stop. An investigation revealed the defendant was operating a vehicle under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. Additionally, detectives added, the defendant’s three male children ages 4 (twins) and 6 years were seated in the rear seats and not wearing seat belts. The children’s 38-year-old mother was a front passenger. Chukwu was placed into police custody without incident and transported to Central Testing for processing. The children were released to their mother. There were no injuries reported. Chukwu’s vehicle was impounded.
The defendant is charged with three counts pf aggravated driving while intoxicated, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, driving while intoxicated and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. Chukwu was arraigned Sunday, July 19, in First District Court.
