Fred Sweetapple of Wardwell Road in Mineola, a resident of the village for 60 years, celebrated his 90th birthday last month with family and friends.
Born July 22, 1925, Sweetapple has called Mineola home since 1955. Over the years, he has participated in various organizations, serving in diverse and important capacities including Boy Scout Troop 45, Little League and The Golden Age Club.
As a parishioner and past president of The Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Sweetapple has exemplified service, faith and dedication to family.
He and his wife, Lenore, raised two children—Fred Jr., who resides in Babylon and Laura, who lives in Garden City. Mineola Mayor Scott P. Strauss commemorated the milestone, presenting Sweetapple with a village proclamation.
