Local youngsters continue to reap the benefits of having two of the best school districts in the state at their disposal.
Jericho and Syosset high schools ranked in the top five of the best high school teachers in New York in a recent ranking by Niche, a research site that rates schools based on community reviews, opinions and hard data. Niche’s Best High School Teachers ranks 5,886 public high schools based on key teaching statistics and nearly 920,000 teacher ratings from 240,000 students and parents. A high ranking indicates that teachers are intelligent and engaging, the school is invested in its teachers and provides a good educational environment, and students and parents rate their teachers favorably.
Jericho clocked in at no. 2 with an A-plus academics grade, an 11:1 student-teacher ratio and a 4.2 out of 5 on parent/student surveys. Syosset nabbed the no. 4 spot and also received an A-plus academic grade, an 11:1 student teacher ratio and a 4.1 out of 5 on parent/student surveys.
“Our talented faculty is key to Syosset’s many successes,” said Syosset Superintendent of Schools Dr. Thomas Rogers. “It’s gratifying to see them get the recognition they’ve earned.”
Jericho High School principal Joan Rosenberg said the school’s staff continuously finds new ways to help the students grow.
“We are encouraged that our efforts to provide the best learning environment for our students are appreciated by the community,” she said. “Our dedicated staff provides a safe place for questions, diversity and spirit. All constituencies readily offer ideas for change which are discussed and enacted in a developmentally appropriate way.”
