Thank you to Dagmar Karppi and The Enterprise-Pilot for the recent article “Little Church With A Big Heart.” As a member of the Community United Methodist Church for 60 years, my parents and my grandparents before me, this is an extremely sad and difficult time for me and my church family. I cannot begin to share the weekly events and programs I miss since the closing of our church. The church has been an important part of my life in so many ways.
As a church family it is very upsetting that neither our Bishop nor our district superintendent have released a letter to the membership detailing the plan going forward or how they will try to take care of the very active members that formed a close church family over the years. Most of what we know is hearsay from others. As the Methodist Church continues to raise concerns about membership falling off and attendance declining, our hope was that the N.Y.A.C., the Bishop and the district superintendent would have made a plan to shepherd our church family to another place to worship.
Instead, we have few answers and little to no support from our Methodist Conference or leaders. Fortunately, our community and surrounding sources of faith and support have reached out to many of us during these very sad and difficult days. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
