Tom Chapin headlines our Folk Festival hosted by Great Neck’s own Dave Sear on Saturday, Sept. 5. Dynamic folk singer, Dave Sear will start the evening off with his powerful, knee-slapping, foot-stomping folk music. He has been a member of the folk music scene since the late 1940’s, sharing the stage with every folk singer through the years from Woody Guthrie to Pete Seeger. Dave will then introduce Tom Chapin, who has been touted by the New York Times as “one of the great personalities in contemporary folk music,” son of jazz drummer Jim Chapin and younger brother of the late musical artist Harry Chapin. Playing both contemporary and pop, Tom’s music has been recognized with awards from the American Library Association, Parents Choice, the New York Music Awards, National Parenting Publications and Parents Magazine. Four of his family recordings have received Grammy nominations for Best Musical Album for Children and he has won three Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Word Album for Children and his work as a narrator of children’s books on tape. His varied career has taken him from Broadway to Off Broadway and television, as well. In addition, Tom works tirelessly on behalf of many charitable organizations, such as Save the Children and World Hunger Year, a hunger organization founded in 1975 by his late brother. For the Steppingstone concert finale, Sunday, Sept. 6, Neil Berg’s 100 Years of Broadway recreates the biggest moments from the finest Broadway shows featuring the actual stars of such shows as The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Jesus Christ Superstar, Jekyll and Hyde and Wicked. These amazing performers light up the stage with songs from the hit shows in which they starred. Neil Berg presents brilliantly revived arrangements of Broadway classics as well as fantastic numbers from Broadway’s newest hit shows. This will prove to be the classiest, most talented performance with revitalized arrangements of Broadway classics as well as fantastic numbers from Broadway’s newest hits. The formula is simple: the best singers, the best songs and the most talented musicians, playing along with an All-Star New York band. Celebrate summer’s end with these amazing performers who will light up the stage with your favorite songs.
Performances begin at 8 p.m. All performances are for Great Neck Park District residents only. Admission is free to Park District residents with a valid park card. Park cards will be checked when parking and at the gate. Each park card holder is allowed to bring two guests into the park, who must be signed-in. There are limited park chairs available and it is recommended that show attendees bring along a blanket or their own chair to sit on. Avoid the traffic and arrive early (before 6 p.m.) with a picnic dinner.

Either Great Neck North High School or the Parkwood Sports Complex will be the rain location, which will be determined based on type of performance and where it can best be performed. Free bus service continues to be available to Steppingstone and return buses start 10 minutes after the show ends. Just make certain that you have your current Park District park card with you, as cards are always checked at the gate when you enter the park. You will not be able to enter without your park card. The bus schedule can be obtained at Great Neck House, 14 Arrandale Ave., or the gate at Steppingstone Park. It is also available on the Park District website at www.greatneckparks.org. The bus is subject to cancellation or change according to public usage. Street parking in the Village of Kings Point is permitted as posted. Parking rules will be strictly enforced by the Kings Point Police. For the safety and comfort of everyone, it is requested that show attendees follow the direction of the park employees.
