Thursday, Sept. 9, marked the beginning of the Manhasset High School girls varsity swim team season. The Manhasset Indians beat the Massapequa Chiefs in a decisive 93 to 82 win yesterday at Brentwood High School pool.
Under the expert coaching of Matt McGrane, this year’s team looks to have a promising future. Already one member of his team has qualified for states and more are sure to qualify during this season.
Megan Smith, a junior, qualified in the 100m butterfly for the New York State Championships in November swimming a 59:88.
The season is shaping up to be an exciting one with fast time from the relays as well as individual swimmers such as Claire McNeary, Kylie Mullholland and Maddy Kang just to name a few.
While other sports teams cancelled games due to the excessive heat, swimming was the only sport not affected. Nice start for the Indians. The team will swim in the relay carnival on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Eisenhower Park pool.
