Monster Win In Season Opener

The 2015 football season began with a mighty bang for the Roslyn Bulldogs as they defeated Great Neck North, 39-8 in their opening game played last Saturday in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.

The Bulldogs jumped out of the gate with an impressive 25-0 run in the first quarter, as the game settled down in the second half for the Roslyn with.

The Bulldogs were led on offense by returning quarterback, Adam Combs. Combs’ favorite target in recent years, Thomas Davis, has graduated, but the Roslyn quarterback has a new battery mate in wide receiver Aaron Winston. This combo got off to a roaring start in the first quarter as Combs connected on touchdown passes of 30 and 50 yards to Winston. With Great Neck looking for the pass, Roslyn turned to a running game, with the same high-powered results. Also in the first quarter, Ben Perez scored on runs of one and two yards to give Roslyn its comfortable margin. In the second quarter, Combs scored his own running touchdown, a five-yard jaunt and in the third quarter, Combs took to the airwaves again, connected with Jackson Krush for a 12-yard touchdown pass. Krush added for the extra point on three of the Roslyn touchdowns.

There were plenty of stars from the opening day victory. On the rushing side, Combs ran for 56 yards on eight carriers, followed by Prince Butler who ran 45 yards on six attempts. With a big lead, the Bulldogs, in the spirit of sportsmanship, kept the ball on the ground in the second half.

On the passing side, Combs connected on five of eight passes for 112 yards and three touchdowns. Winston had three receptions for 88 yards.

Veteran star Alex Epprecht keyed the Bulldog defense with two sacks. Marc Azouley, Ben Perez and Brandon Abizedeh each had a fumble recovery.

Next week, the Bulldogs will travel to Great Neck for a rematch with their opponent from the first week. The Saturday, Sept. 19 game will begin at 2 p.m. The ride to Great Neck is a short one, so come out and give this fine team the road support that they deserve.
