Sewanhaka Students Head Back To School

Sewanhaka Central High School District students kicked off the 2015-16 school year on Sept. 3, eager to learn and ready for a year of academic learning. Around the district, administrators from all five of the district’s schools — Elmont Memorial High School, Floral Park Memorial High School, H. Frank Carey High School, New Hyde Park Memorial and Sewanhaka High School, were on hand to assist students in finding their classes.

“Everything went smoothly which is a credit to all of the buildings’ teachers and administrators,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ralph Ferrie said.

Students spent the first few days getting acclimated to their daily schedules and met with school counselors regarding any necessary changes, if needed. They also had an opportunity to reunite with friends and got to know their teachers for the upcoming school year.

The high school district and the Sewanhaka Central Council of Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) are sponsoring their annual College and Career Night on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. at New Hyde Park Memorial High School, 500 Leonard Blvd., in New Hyde Park.

Representatives from more than 110 colleges, universities, technical and business schools, schools specializing in specific areas, military academies and the Armed Forces will be in attendance to speak with parents and students. Included in their presentation will be information regarding programs of study, admission requirements, scholarships and financial aid.
