Children’s Fashions, Food And Fun At Country Fair

The St. John’s of Lattingtown 63rd annual Country Fair will be on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 19 and 20, with some new aspects this year, including a children’s clothing boutique and a pop-up fashion show.

Locust Valley has become a design destination and hub for some of this country’s most prominent interior designers and stylists like St. John’s parishioner Parron Edwards, who is co-chair this year of The Strawberry Patch, the gently-used fine children’s clothing boutique.

Edwards has worked for and studied under various luminaries of the fashion industry. Edwards gained expertise in technical design at Vera Wang NY, design at Ellen Tracy and most recently in the growing fabric research and development team at Rebecca Taylor, NYC.

A native of Lexington, MS, Edwards studied design and fashion merchandising at Mississippi State University and studied abroad at Kings College, London and the Royal School of Needle Work at Hampton Court Palace  in Surrey.

Edwards will be on hand to share his style philosophy and tips with fair-goers keen to fluff up their homes a bit.

“I believe in the flow of inspiration and how it moves you to create,” said Edwards.

The Strawberry Patch will offer a selection of frocks, boy’s blazers, khakis and more and the “can’t miss” day long, top of the hour children’s pop-up fashion show featuring the precious parishioners parading around the fair lawn. These outfits are for sale at the boutique, a picturesque brick farm building which Edwards and his partner George Stimola, co-chair of the fair and vestry member, are personally revamping and designing with sweat and style.

Other elements of the fair are various Gold Coast goods, decorator donated and curated designer goods, an “auction-house quality” boutique featuring fine jewelry, china, silver, decorative accessories, paintings, rugs and furniture; a bargain basement priced furniture annex, plus a special live music performance by Serve Somebody, internationally acclaimed recording artists.

There will also be children’s carnival games (no rides), face painting, a petting zoo, food, a peddler’s market offering linens, appliances, cooking accessories, glassware and more, books, CDs and DVDs, Christmas decorations, children’s toys and clothing, furniture, sporting goods, plants and Cove Animal Rescue’s cat and kitten adoptions.

On Saturday, the fair is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; adults are $10 and children are $5. For the special preview at 9 a.m., admission is $25. The fair hours are noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday; buy a St. John’s tote bag for $10 (second bag $5) and stuff it with all the stylish stuff you can find.

The fair will happen rain or shine.
