Nearly 200 new members of the New York State Police were recently honored for achieving graduation from the 203rd session of the New York State Police Academy’s Basic School, including five local residents from Long Island.
Kuljeet Gosal of Floral Park and William O’Neill of Bellerose are assigned to Troop K in Poughkeepsie. Syosset resident Jeffrey Sumcizk is assigned to Troop C in Sidney. Nicholas Gizzi of Wantagh and Westbury’s Juan Michimani are assigned to Troop F in Middletown.
“These new troopers have answered the call and selflessly dedicated themselves to protecting and serving the people of the State of New York,” said Governor Andrew Cuomo. “I commend these men and women for their hard work over the last 26 weeks and for continuing the long tradition of excellence as members of the New York State Police.”
“After months of difficult classwork and training, the 203rd Basic School join the ranks of one of the finest police agencies in the world,” said New York State Police Superintendent Joseph A. D’Amico. “This graduation is the culmination of 26 weeks of hard work and perseverance.”
The new troopers reported for field duty on Sept. 10. For the following 10 weeks the new troopers will be evaluated under a field-training program supervised by senior field training officers.
