The Lloyd Magothy Water Trust and The Big Red Med Box recently expanded to its 13th location on Long Island with a new box located at the Old Westbury Village Police Station.
The Lloyd Magothy Water Trust, a Southampton based non-profit, was created by Tom Mcabee after a well in his community was closed because of unsafe quantities of prescription meds found in the water. East Hills resident Adam Haber, a member of the Roslyn School board, is also a board member of the water trust.
The Big Red Med Box, Haber said, was designed by Mcabee as an environmentally friendly way to discard unwanted or expired prescription medications that aren’t controlled medications.
Meds delivered to Big Red Med Box locations, such as the Old Westbury Village Police Station or Greenvale Pharmacy, are collected and incinerated in an environmentally friendly way. This ensures proper disposal, preventing meds from leaching into our aquifers or falling into the hands of children, Haber added.
Haber has asked that any local pharmacist or police station can contact jim at AdamHaber1@gmail.com if they are interested in obtaining a Big Red Med Box at their location.
