Adelphi University’s campus may sit within the borders of the Village of Garden City, but the school’s reach when it comes to the hardwood has achieved more of an international flair as of late. First, it was men’s basketball alum Duane Morgan, who signed a contract to for the Atenas de Carmen de Patagones basketball club in Argentina this past spring. Most recently, Adelphi grad Anh-Dao Tran joined Morgan on the next level of international pro hoops when she signed on to play with the German-based PS Karlsruhe Lions (PSH Lions) in the second league of the Damen-Basketball-Bundesliga (DBBL).
It’s no surprise that foreign teams would come knocking given the accomplishments both athletes achieved while suiting up for the Panthers. Morgan was the 30th player to score 1,000 points in his career and in his final season, he was named to the All-Metropolitan First Team. No slouch herself, Tran helped Adelphi land its first NE-10 Tournament championship while leading the team in assists and topping both the Panthers and the Northeast Conference-10 Conference with an 87.9 percent free-throw percentage. With the latter following in the footsteps of fellow female alum like Jessica Kitrys and Sade Jackson, Adelphi University is quietly becoming its own little basketball factory.
