Weekly Mineola Leisure Club meetings were suspended during July and August. However, Fun Day Mondays at North Hempstead Beach Park found many members thoroughly engaged in the activities provided by the town. An overflow crowd that arrived by 10 a.m. enjoyed each day’s program.
Typical class schedules included line dancing, Zumba, fitness, Mahjong and Tai Chi. In addition to these classes, there were weekly themes that were presented.
An Antique Car Show piqued the interest of the car enthusiasts among the group who marveled over the many vehicles of yesteryear. A Senior Health Education and Information Fair was the subject of another Fun Day. On that day, there were health screenings conducted, educational materials and literature disseminated, and questions answered regarding health solutions. Another outstanding program was a Home Town USA celebration of American traditions with a special salute to the Armed Forces.
Club members gathered together and also shared games of their own choosing as they passed the time with friends. Drinks and rolls were available for purchase at a nominal cost and during the day a Farmers Market set up an area where fresh Long Island produce could be bought.
