Toddler Time

Movie at the Library

Haunted Lighthouses
Join Eco-Photo Explorers as they examine the myths and legends and paranormal activities in historical Fire Island Lighthouse, Execution Rocks Lighthouse and Race Rock Lighthouse. Head to Locust Valley Library to see and hear all the ghostly tales associated with these lighthouses, at 7 p.m. Register online or contact the library.

Autumn Lamp
Learn how to ink a glass base, then place leaves on an acetate shade and paint the background. Fill the base with twinkle lights for a soft glow and a fun accessory for your room. Pumpkin Decorating
At the Bayville Library. There are three sessions available, depending on age: 11 a.m. for ages 3-5; 3:30 p.m. for grades K-2; and 4:30 p.m. for grades 3-6. Registration required. Bring your own small or medium size pumpkin and the library will provide all the craft supplies for you to decorate your own personalized pumpkin.

Excel for Beginners
Introduction to Microsoft Excel at Locust Valley Library, 7 p.m. Learn the basics of the world’s most popular spreadsheet program, including creating, editing and formatting worksheets, formulas and much more. Some computer knowledge necessary. Class is limited.
Meet The Candidates
The Northwest Civic Association will be holding a meet the candidates forum at the Hicksville Community Center, 28 W. Carl St. Candidates from the following office will be invited: Nassau County District Attorney Office; Nassau County Legislative Districts 2, 14, 16 and 17; Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor; Town Clerk; Receiver of Taxes; Town Council. All residents who live within the boundaries of these elective offices are invited to attend. Halloween Votive
For kids ages 6 and up, at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Create a warm glow with a glass votive Halloween scene to help get into the holiday “spirit.”
Long Island and the Civil War
Although no battles were fought on Long Island, the Civil War affected all the residents living here. Local authors Bill Bleyer and Harrison Hunt will present a program on their book Long Island and the Civil War telling about the wartime experiences of Long Islanders on the battlefield and at home. Free at Locust Valley Library, 7 p.m.

Tuesday nights from 7 to 8:30 p.m., head to the Bayville Library to sit, knit and chit-chat with the ladies who knit. New members always welcome.

George Lucas & the Creation of Star Wars
Star Wars—Episode VII: The Force Awakens will hit movie theaters soon—the first new Star Wars film in more than a decade. Film historian Clive Young will present lots of rare footage and trace the history of the original Star Wars trilogy that writer/director George Lucas created between 1975 and 1983. At the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Library, 7 p.m.

Food Pantry
The North Shore Assembly of God, 84 Orchard St., Oyster Bay is operating a new food pantry for the community. It is meant to supplement the growing needs of the community. It is open on Tuesdays 11 a.m. to noon. If you are in need of their services at other times, please call Pastor Diane at 516-922-2547 and make an appointment to complete their screening process.
The Interfaith Community

The American Hot Rod
Collector Car Showcase (CCS), the only museum/showcase devoted to automotive memorabilia, Petroliana, and vintage cars in the metropolitan New York area, has an exhibit, The American Hot Rod, on display through Oct. 31 at the 18,000-square-foot facility at 85 Pine Hollow Rd. (Route 106) on the southern approach to this historic North Shore Long Island Gold Coast hamlet. The Petroliana museum, as car aficionados liken it, is open to the public daily from Tuesday through Saturday. It will feature a number of award-winning hot rods that have captivated audiences nationwide and are on loan to Collector Car Showcase for this special and rare exhibit.
