Halloween Pack Night
Cub Scout Pack 5’s Halloween Pack Night will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Fairfield School Auditorium. If you’re interested in scouts, come down and check them out or email Ursula Valentine at calypso@optonline.net for more information.

Harry Potter House Cup Competition
Back by popular demand, come test your Harry Potter knowledge at the Plainedge library. Teams will compete to try and win the House Cup by playing the Harry Potter “Scene It” DVD game. The members of the winning team each get their own House cup. Everyone goes home with Harry Potter goodies. Dressing up as your favorite Harry Potter character is highly recommended. Must register and include your telephone number and address when registering. There are 15 spaces open. For grades 3-6 only. From 3:45 to 4:45 in the community room.
Saturday, Oct. 17
Massapequa High School Homecoming
Cheer on the Chiefs at their homecoming parade and game. The parade begins at 12:30 p.m. and the game is at 2 p.m. against Uniondale High School.

Plainedge High School Homecoming
Cheer on the Red Devils at their homecoming game at 2 p.m. Donations from T-shirt sales and other items will go to raise money for the Brian Moore Memorial Statue.

Apple Festival
The Historical Society of the Massapequas’ annual apple festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Massapequa Historical Complex, Old Grace Church at 4755 Merrick Rd., Massapequa. Enjoy an old fashioned apple festival featuring Long Island apples, homemade pie, hot dogs, crafts, vendors, rafflesMassCal_101415B, music, trash and treasure and face painting. Enjoy live music by the Banjo Rascals from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tours of the historic buildings (Old Grace Church, the Delancey Floyd-Jones Free Library and the Elbert Floyd Jones Cottage) will also be available. Rain date is Oct. 18.

Chocolate Covered Everything
Join the baking coach at the Plainedge library and discover the delicious world of chocolate and enjoy dipping some of your favorites in it. Choices may include pretzels, marshmallows, Oreos, graham crackers and more. Limited to 24 people. From 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the community room. Register for your ticket.

Jacyee Drysen: A Tribute to Barbra Streisand
The “Voice You Will Never Forget” will be coming to the Plainedge library to entertain with an amazing selection of Barbra Streisand hits. Limited to 80 people. From 2 to 3 p.m. in the community room.

Massapequa Park Garden Club
Bonsai will be the subject when Bob BonGiorno addresses the club. The public is invited to learn about the care and creation of these miniature plants. Admission is free and refreshments will be served. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room of the Massapequa Park Village Hall at 151 Front Street. Entrance is in the rear. Health and Wellness Seminar
The Bar Harbour library will host a health and wellness seminar entitled, “Emotional Eating,” presented by Health, Nutrition and Wellness Specialist Alice Kaufman at 2 p.m.

Lecture

Volunteers Needed
The Plainedge Public Library is looking for Plainedge School District volunteers in grade six and up for children’s crafts/activities during the 2015MassCal_101415A-16 school year. All applicants are accepted into a pool of eligible volunteers who will be called upon from time to time during the year. There will also be an opportunity to volunteer for Plainedge Public Library’s fall festival to be held on Nov. 3. Application packets are now available from the children’s services staff. Contact the Children’s Services Department for more information at 516-735-4133, ext. 12 or ext. 13. Community service credit furnished upon request.

Rag-a-Muffin Costume Parade
Late registration is available at 11 a.m. for the 41st annual Rag-a-Muffin Costume Parade. The parade begins at non and there is no rain date. All children who participate must be registered so they will be eligible for free prizes. Online registration is also available at www.nmfd660.com.
