The weather turned cold and windy, even producing snow flakes at some points throughout Sunday afternoon, but that didn’t stop the droves of people from attending the biggest event of the year in Oyster Bay. The 32nd annual Oyster Festival was another success for the nonprofits that participated by selling food, the arts and crafts vendors who sold their wares and the businesses that were able to accommodate the influx of people, particularly those restaurants along Audrey Avenue that offered a warm respite from the cold.
One new addition to this year’s festival proved to be an attraction to people of all ages. The World’s Largest Rubber Duck, affectionately known as “Mama Duck” spent the weekend on Oyster Bay Harbor, drawing kids and adults alike to the waterfront, in spite of the biting wind, to snap a selfie with six-story high yellow duck. Though she swayed in the high winds and even deflated at times, she fulfilled her duty of bringing smiles to the faces of those who viewed her.
In addition to the duck, people lined up as usual to get their hands on the oysters that were plentiful, as well as the other foods available in the food court, packed the arts and crafts tents and swarmed the stages to hear the live music.
The hamlet of Oyster Bay will now settle down, but the Oyster Bay Rotary Club will soon set plans in motion for next year’s festival.
