In a move designed to accelerate the development of its three-year-old cancer program, St. Francis Hospital has acquired significant radiation therapy assets of the former NRAD Medical Associates, P.C. The acquisition will be the catalyst for launching robust, dedicated radiation oncology services that will round out the Hospital’s growing program of comprehensive, multidisciplinary cancer care. NRAD, a privately owned Long Island physician group, recently filed for bankruptcy, and as a result of Chapter 11 proceedings, St. Francis acquired the physician radiation therapy practice, equipment, and other assets for nearly $3.3 million.
“This acquisition is a part of a strategic initiative to strengthen the comprehensive care provided by our recently relocated Cancer Institute,” says Ruth E. Hennessey, EVP & Chief Administrative Officer of St. Francis Hospital. “Along with our newly expanded infusion center, it will add the final piece to our state-of-the art oncology services, so patients can have a one-stop destination for advanced cancer treatments.”
In addition to acquiring a significant portion of NRAD’s assets, St. Francis will also hire some of the radiology practice’s remaining staff. St. Francis physicians will initially provide care at NRAD’s site in Garden City, with plans of bringing some of its technology and staff to the Hospital’s Cancer Institute at 2200 Northern Boulevard in East Hills. The plan also includes providing care at a second former NRAD site in Woodbury.
Founded in 1927, NRAD was one of the largest privately owned multi-specialty physician practices serving patients in Nassau, Queens, and Suffolk County.
