Daisy and Brownie Girl Scout Troop 434 from Guggenheim, along with many other Port troops, painted pumpkins teal for Halloween for the Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) Teal Pumpkin Project. The Teal Pumpkin Project (www.tealpumpkinproject.org) helps raise awareness about allergies and helps people with allergies enjoy holidays like Halloween. If a home has a teal pumpkin outside, that home will offer nonfood treats to trick-or-treaters on Halloween. North Shore Garden Center, at 53 Avenue A, gave the girl scouts the pumpkins at a discount and donated some to the project as well.
