The 2015 Roslyn High School football season ended on a disappointing note last Friday night as the Bulldogs fell to a high-powered Clarke High School offense, losing 55-20.
Playing their final game at home on a Friday night, when a loyal number of fans preferred the Bulldogs to the Mets. Roslyn jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a one-yard touchdown run by Adam Combs. After a Clarke touchdown, the Bulldogs resorted to some highly-creative playmaking to score their next two scores. In the second quarter, Jackson Krush was on the receiving end of a 65-yard pass from running back Christopher Tepedino. With the scored tied, 14-14, Roslyn scored on a Clarke kickoff, with Krush scoring on a spectacular 90-yard run, where he also was the recipient of a backfield pass. But that proved to be the end of the Roslyn attack. Clarke’s senior running back, Aaron Dawson scored four touchdowns as Clarke pulled away for the victory.
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs bounced back from a disappointing 2014 campaign to end the season with a 5-3 record. An injury to star split end Aaron Winston limited Combs’ options on offense. Winston was one of the several Roslyn seniors who saw their excellent careers come to an end with the Clarke game. Jackson Krush, Brandon Abizadeh, Lucas Broncato, Andreii Castelblanco, Brian Pierce, Justin Wilkins, Damon Schneider, Kyle Lin and Navid Shamsdiba are the other graduating seniors. Krush was a force on offense all year long, while Broncato, Castelblanco, Pierce and Wilkins were stars on defense. Abizadeh starred on both ends of the ball. These seniors will be missed, but just that many stars will be returning for the 2016 campaign. That includes Adam Combs, who is one of the most exciting football players in Nassau County. Other returning starters include Marc Azouley, Prince Butler, Joe Cinque, Nat Epprecht, Christian Gonzalez, Jeffrey Maldonado and Ben Perez. Roslyn fans can look forward to more winning football from this well-coached squad.
