The rain departed long enough on Wednesday, Nov. 11, for the Floral Park American Legion and the community to parade and assemble for the Annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony at Memorial Park, at Plainfield and Tulip avenues. This year’s ceremony included a special dedication of a plaque commemorating the service of veterans who have served in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Veterans and their family members marched from the Atlantic Avenue extension, down Tulip Avenue to Memorial Park, along with post members, American Legion Auxiliary and members of the Sons of the American Legion, local Boy Scouts and village officials.
The POW-MIA ceremony was conducted by Vietnam Veteran Brian Keenan, along with American Legion Auxiliary President Terry Whalen.
Retired Army Reserve Colonel Dr. Joseph Massaro presented the meaning of Veteran’s Day.
“Taps” was played for the fallen comrades and wreath was presented, followed by the benediction. Past Commander Al Trasolini, post adjutant served as officer-of-the-day and Ed LaChappelle served as sergeant-at-arms.
