Keeping Massapequa’s drinking water safe and clean and making sure that there is a substantial supply to go around is a huge task. With a solid team behind them, the Nassau Suffolk Water Commissioners’ Association (NSWCA), which consists of water commissioners representing 21 Long Island water districts, congratulates and welcomes back to its association re-elected Massapequa Water District Commissioner Joseph Tricarico, and re-elected South Farmingdale Water District (SFWD) commissioner John Hirt. Both commissioners will serve a three-year term, which began Jan. 1, 2016, and runs through Dec. 31, 2018.

“We are pleased to welcome our new and returning colleagues to the NSWCA,” said NSWCA president Thomas P. Hand, who resides in Massapequa Park of Tricarico and Hirt.

“I am delighted over my reelection as Commissioner of the Massapequa Water District.  It is a pleasure to serve the people of Massapequa by safeguarding the quality of our water, as well as ensuring the continuous supply at an affordable rate,” said Tricarico. “I am also pleased to return as a fellow Commissioner in the Nassau Suffolk Water Commissioners’ Association. The NSWCA is a dedicated organization that provides best practices information on a wide scope of related topics and excellent educational opportunities that can prove invaluable in the management of Long Island water districts.”

Hirt also spoke of his gratitude of being reelected.

“I’m delighted to be re-elected as water commissioner of the South Farmingdale Water District,” he said. “I also look forward to my ongoing involvement with the NSWCA and our continuing education programs to best serve our District residents and consumers.”

Long Island voters have elected or re-elected water commissioners in 21 commissioner-run water districts within Nassau and Suffolk counties.

“Commissioner-run water districts enable residents and consumers to express their opinions and preferences through the voting process…this puts emphasis on a hyper-local basis in each community. In such hyper-local elections, every resident’s vote truly counts,” said Hand.
