The 2015-16 basketball season is heading into its final turn and the Roslyn Bulldogs have picked the right time to go on an impressive winning streak. Last week saw more wins for Roslyn—and both of them came on the road. On Jan. 13, the Bulldogs defeated New Hyde Park, 63-40. Two days later, Roslyn cruised into the weekend by taking a 80-56 win over Roosevelt.
The top scorer in both wins was Keandre Augustine. In the win over New Hyde Park, Augustine, from his point guard position, had 21 points and seven assists. In the Roosevelt win, Augustine had a season-high 31 points, including four three-pointers.
During Coach Craig Murphy’s tenure, the Roslyn offense has been remarkably balance in its scoring attack. That remains true this year. In both wins, no less than 10 Bulldogs made it into the scoring column. In the New Hyde Park win, Jonah Tenner had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Assisting Augustine in the Roosevelt victory was both Tenner and Omar Burns, each who had 10 points. Tenner had his second double-double on the boards, hauling down 10 rebounds in the win. Jared Cohen chipped in with eight assists and four rebounds, along with his eight points.
With the two wins, Roslyn is 9-4 overall and 7-1 in Conference A-II play. The Bulldogs return home for a 6:30 p.m. game on Wednesday, Jan. 20 against Plainedge. On Saturday, Jan. 23, Roslyn travels to Division for a noon matchup. After that, it’s the big Friday, Jan. 29 home game against South Side. Roslyn hopes to avenge an earlier loss to South Side and in doing so, grab a share of first place in conference play. But the games against Plainedge and Division are important, too. With the two wins this past week, Roslyn has won four straight games and basketball fans need to come out and give these fine young men the support they deserve.
