Nassau County Police arrested a South Carolina man for driving while intoxicated and violating Leandra’s Law on Friday, Jan. 22 at 2:55 a.m. in Westbury.
According to police, Steve D. Marks, 35, of Ridgeland, SC was observed operating a 2011 Ford Expedition west on Old Country Road with its headlamps off. Third Precinct Police made a New York Vehicle and Traffics stop in the vicinity of 111 Old Country Road and it was revealed that Marks was operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcoholic beverage. Additionally the defendant had his two sons’ ages 10 and 6 not properly restrained in the third row seats. His 14 year old daughter and his 14 year old niece sitting in the second row were also not properly restrained. There were 6 other passengers in the vehicle as well. Marks was placed into police custody without incident and the children were released to their mother and aunt who were passengers. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was impounded.
Marks is charged with four counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, driving while intoxicated, driving while impaired 1192.1, various vehicle and traffic law violations. He will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday, Jan. 23.
