Project Share Brings Joy

The Manhasset SCA’s Project Share was delighted by the generosity of so many Manhasset residents and supporters during the past holiday season.
An overwhelming number of community members, Manhasset School District staff, Manhasset businesses and organizations donated food, toys, clothing and their time to ensure that a considerable number of economically at-risk families within the Manhasset Public School District had a delicious Thanksgiving meal and gifts for their children in time for the holidays.
Project Share provided Thanksgiving meals for several families in need as identified by school personnel. Volunteers generously donated all of the provisions for the delicious meals. Girl Scout Troop 516 and Girl Scout Troop 563 also made donations. Troop 563 went grocery shopping at Marino’s Supermarket in Flushing where the girls were able to shop and pick out the items themselves.
Project Share and Manhasset schools facilitated the long-standing Holiday Gift Giving Program and saw an abundant outpouring of gifts this year. Through the Holiday Gift Giving Program, over 234 wish lists for economically-at-risk families were fulfilled. Items on wish lists included toys and basic need items such as clothing. Because of this wonderful program, many families provided holiday wishes for their children.
The Holiday Gift Giving Program was especially successful this past year due to the unexpected and most generous donation by a local, anonymous donor of 100 coats for the most needy children, as identified by the Manhasset Schools’ social workers. The donor accompanied Project Share Chairs Rachael Caton, Ariana Brock and Karen Solon to Burlington Coat Factory and helped to personally select coats for each child.
Other donations included over 150 gift bags filled with toiletries by the Manhasset High School National Honor Society; individually-packaged baked goods donated by Girls Scout Troop 521 and Girl Scout Troop 559. The Community Reformed Church of Manhasset donated grocery bags filled with nonperishable food items, and Dr. Jenn Fountain of Fountain Pediatric Dentistry donated toothbrushes and toothpaste.

The SCA’s Project Share is an outreach program. The goal is to bring a smile to a child in need.
