Dr. Ronald Frederic Rieder, 82, resident of the Village of Flower Hill, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016. Born in New York City, he was the son of Jeanne and Martin Rieder. He passed away at North Shore University Hospital surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Danièle, his son, David, and his daughter, Isabelle. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Henry, Noah, Ari and Evaleah and his sister, Harriet. Dr. Rieder was a hematologist at Downstate Hospital from 1967 to 2007. His grant-funded research and patient care were focused primarily on sickle-cell anaemia and thalassemia. He was also faculty in the medical school. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
