A spoonful of services helps the medicine go down at Great Neck’s newest drugstore
In this day and age of big-box stores and online merchants, Town Pharmacy offers a refreshing change.
Brothers Alan and Eldon Khorshidi, who attended Lakeville Elementary School, Great Neck South Middle School and Great Neck South High School, decided to give back to the community that raised them.
And like on the TV show Cheers, Town Pharmacy is a place where everyone knows your name.
Located in the North Shore Farms shopping center at 96 Horace Harding Blvd. in Great Neck, Town Pharmacy bills itself as a “Hometown pharmacy with world-class service and competitive pricing.” Open seven days a week, the drugstore provides free delivery for prescription and over-the-counter medicine, sells hard-to-find surgical supplies and offers flu shots, immunizations and free blood-pressure screenings.
In addition to these amenities, Pharmacist Alan Khorshidi, who earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from St. John’s University in 2012, compounds medications to create specialized and allergy-free mixtures and can add custom flavors to liquid formulas. He even fills personalized orders for pets.
Unlike commercial chains, Town Pharmacy’s “wooden shelving provides a European feel,” noted the Great Neck South Class of 2006 pharmacist.
This family-run business accepts insurance, sells both traditional and alternative medicine and is working to set up educational workshops on immunizations, staying healthy during the winter and natural-medicine substitutes.
“We aspire to serve the residents of Great Neck with pride and purpose, and a standard of excellence native to this town,” said younger brother Eldon, who graduated from South in 2009. “Great Neck—its school teachers, small businesses and local residents—had a profound impact on us during our formative years. We want to pay that forward. Our boutique pharmacy is very much Great Neck in its essence. We offer what the chain pharmacies can’t.”
