Michelle Cano, a student at Shelter Rock School in Manhasset, recently participated in the World Latin Dance Cup, one of the largest Latin dance competitions in the world. It was held in mid-December at Miami’s Deauville Beach Resort Hotel.
Representing the Mestizo Art Center of New York, Michelle and her team won first place with a high score of 85.0 in the Salsa Junior Girls Team Division, competing against other highly talented teams from several countries.
Cano also attends Adventures in Learning, the afterschool enrichment and education program, founded 46 years ago in 1969 by the Congregational Church of Manhasset, now located at the Hagedorn Community Center at the Manhasset/Great Neck EOC Building at 65 High St., Manhasset. Last June, she gave an exciting salsa performance for her peers, teachers, staff and parents, too, at Adventures that was received with enthusiastic cheers.
Diana Holden, executive director of Adventures, remarked that “Everyone in our program is thrilled for Michelle. She is such a superb representative of her school, Adventures in Learning, and most of all, our community. This is such a terrific accomplishment for Michelle and her team, and we send them our heartfelt congratulations. Bravo!”
