Transgender Day Honored By LI Advocacy Coalition

At the Transgender Day of Remembrance ceremony, held at the Episcopal Church of St. Margaret in Plainview, Supervisor Judi Bosworth discussed the importance of providing antidiscrimination protection for residents and referred to the town unanimously passing an amendment to Town Code on June 2, which added “gender identification” as one of the protected classes.

Juli Grey-Owens, executive director of the Long Island Transgender Advocacy Coalition presented Bosworth with an award in honor of her leadership, compassion and fearless support of the transgender community. The Transgender Day of Remembrance was founded in 1999 to memorialize the murder of Rita Hester in Allston, Massachusetts, as well as all transgender people who were murdered in the past due to transphobia.
