JCC_030916AIn addition to the highly anticipated live performance by today’s most sought-after comedian, Sebastian Maniscalco, Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center’s Eat. Bid. Laugh! An Auction and Epicurean event will feature a spectacular set of prizes.

The event, to be held on Thursday, March 31, at its new venue, Fresh Meadow Country Club in Lake Success, will feature an array of high-end items, including concert tickets for today’s top performers, exclusive sports and travel destination packages, overnight stays in New York City paired with some of the finest restaurant and theater tickets, as well as a variety of jewelry and beauty, plus fashion and sports memorabilia items.

Other prizes include a 12-day small group trip for two to Burma, which comprises of stays at Burmese-style boutique hotels, an exploration of Bagan’s thousands of ancient temples and tours from experts on Burmese history and culture; a walk-on role of CBS’s hit TV show Blue Bloods and a meeting with members of the J. Mendel design team to create a custom-made mink coat.

Online bidding for prizes is set to launch shortly, and a sneak peak at this year’s items is available at www.sjjcc.org/auction. All proceeds support Sid Jacobson JCC’s community programs.

The mission of the annual event is to connect thousands of donors, sponsors, volunteers and participants who enthusiastically collaborate to provide funding for Sid Jacobson JCC’s vital social service programs throughout Long Island. The event assures crucial scholarships for participants in Camp Kehilla, the JCC’s award winning camp for children with special needs, as well as those in all JCC programs, ranging from early childhood, support groups and cancer wellness programs.

Health And Wellness Director

James Loscalzo has been appointed as the director of Sid Jacobson JCC’s Jacobson Gershwind Health and Wellness Center.

Loscalzo has more than 20 years of professional experience in the field of physical fitness and health and wellness. In addition, he is a polished professional in physical therapy. Previously, he developed a rehabilitation aftercare program now used in a number of health clubs across Long Island for patients in need of additional care post-rehab. An accomplished professional, he brings a wealth of business and healthcare management experience to the JCC.

Loscalzo fills the shoes of Sarah Schmitt, former associate executive director of membership and fitness, who left the JCC earlier this year. He is ecstatic to be a part of the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center family, and to work for an agency that prides itself on individual and community well-being, values he deeply admires.

“My goal is to promote a healthy lifestyle for the JCC community,” he said. “Our health and wellness professionals are top of the line. Our newly renovated aquatics center and fitness center are state-of-the-art. Our trainers are certified in helping people diagnosed with cancer and other diseases. I am delighted to lead this very special part of an outstanding community center.”

Tess Gerritsen Lecture

The JCC will host author Tess Gerritsen on Thursday, March 17, at 10:30 a.m. to discuss her book Playing With Fire as part of the JCC’s Author Breakfast and Book Signing series.

While visiting Rome, Italy, violinist Julia Ansdell buys a piece of sheet music in an antique shop. When Julia returns home to Boston and starts playing the music. her three-year-old daughter Lily has a violent reaction. Julia sets out to discover why this music is causing her daughter to act this way and her quest brings her back to Italy, to the ancient city of Venice. Julia uncovers a dark secret involving a dangerous and powerful family that will stop at nothing to keep her from bringing the truth to light.

Gerritsen is a New York Times best selling author and her novels featuring homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles inspired the TNT television series Rizzoli and Isles.
