Lord & Taylor on Northern Boulevard in Manhasset has been a staple in the North Shore community for decades. Established in 1941,
the first branch to open in the country celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.
The facade is undergoing a two-year renovation and expansion project scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2017. Once the expansion phase is complete, the new structure will add more than 39,000 square feet to the free-standing store, growing to more than 122,000 square feet.
The construction of this project began in January 2016 with the clearing of the street-level parking.
The Garden City store is also under construction. Both stores will be open during renovations.
Part of the project is to create a new main entrance at the rear of the store, adjacent to the parking lot near Shelter Rock Road. The entrance will feature two-story tall windows, bathing the new double-height atrium in natural light.
“Lord & Taylor is delighted to be adding to our footprint on Long Island where we have a long history and loyal customers,” said Liz Rodbell, president of Lord & Taylor and Hudson’s Bay. “Elevating the design of Manhasset and Garden City will allow Lord & Taylor to better serve the community and deliver an exciting experience to customers for years to come.”
When the renovation is complete, the Manhasset store will have a
more intuitive flow, new finishes
and upgraded services. Some highlights of the project include the nearly doubling in size of the ladies’ shoe department from 5,700 to 10,500 square feet; upgrades to floors, lighting, fixtures and hardware; refreshed fitting rooms, new service desks and a new personal shopping office.
