One Love Escalation Tonight

The Manhasset High School Booster Club in conjunction with the One LoveBasic RGB Foundation will be holding an Escalation Event regarding relationship violence on Monday, April 18. The workshop will feature a film which depicts a true story of a college relationship which ended in tragedy.
The story is about a University of Virginia senior, Yeardley Love, who was beaten to death by her ex-boyfriend just weeks before her graduation. The One Love Foundation was created in 2010 in honor of her memory.
After her death, Yeardley’s family and friends were surprised to learn the statistics that one in three women and one in four men in this country will be in a violent relationship in his or her lifetime and that women ages 16 to 24 have three times greater risk.
One Love’s ambitious goal is to end relationship violence by educating, empowering and activating young people in a movement
for social change. To achieve this, One Love has developed creative technology-based tools and resources that meet young people where they are and inspire them to action.
“It is my sincerest intent and the intent of the One Love Foundation
to bring this important event to
our Manhasset High School students,” said Jim Amen, director of athletics at Manhasset Public Schools. “This event is not just for student-athletes. It is open to all students’ grades 9-12.”
All parents, community members and high school students in grades 9-12 are invited and encouraged
to attend this powerful and dynamic presentation.
