Manhasset Schools’ Capital Projects Update

tennis courtsThe board of education recently awarded bids on certain capital projects included in the December 2014 Bond Vote. The following projects will be completed during the summer of 2016:
Shelter Rock Elementary School
• Music room renovations (band and orchestra)
• Cafeteria renovations, including the installation of air conditioning and acoustical wall, ceiling panels and lighting
• Upgrades to sixth-grade classrooms 27 and 28, creating science ready space within the classroom, plus renovations to the science specialist classroom
• Installation of handicap accessible toilet in the classroom for self-contained students (room 21)
• New outdoor lighting installed
Munsey Park Elementary School
• Slate roof repairs (Note: gym roof to be done at a later date)
Pending New York State Education Department (SED) approval of the remaining capital projects at Munsey Park and the secondary school during the summer of 2016, the school district anticipates a bid opening immediately after Labor Day 2016 on the remaining projects at Munsey Park and the secondary school, as well as the conversion of the bus garage into the central administration office space. It is anticipated that work on the conversion of the bus garage would begin in the fall of 2016 and be completed in the late winter of 2017.
The time frame for remaining projects (below) is the summer of 2017:
Munsey Park
• Science room reconstruction
• Upgrade sixth-grade classroom to science lab
• Music rooms reconstruction
• Cafeteria-kitchen/serving line reconstruction/air conditioning
• Toilet reconstruction
• Exterior site and security lighting replacement
Secondary School
• Science classrooms reconstruction
• Technology classroom reconstruction and conversion
• New technology room
• Music/art classroom expansion/relocation and reconstruction
• Cafeteria expansion/reconstruction/air conditioning
• Crawl space ventilation—phase II
Finally, the Memorial Field project should be substantially completed by Memorial Day. Perimeter landscaping is projected to be installed by the middle of May, followed by hydro seeding of areas adjacent to the sod field. On Memorial Day, May 30, when the annual Memorial Day Parade occurs, there will be a brief dedication for the reconstruction of Memorial Field and tennis complex that will be held at the flagpole area.
The following projects at memorial field have been substantially completed, including the installation of:
• The new sod field
• The new tennis court complex
• The new basketball court
• A new flagpole as well as the refurbished WWI Memorial plaque at the SE corner of the field
• The storage/bathroom facility
