New TV Comedy Series By Port Native

Scordio Productions, a Long Island-based film production company, recently launched its new comedy trailer for a TV show entitled Long Island Lights. The show, created by Port native AJ Scordio, is about a group of misfits at an amateur production company on Long Island who learn life lessons as they stumble towards their idea of Hollywood success.

Scordio graduated from Schreiber High School and went to Bucknell University. He started working in finance but always dreamed of doing something more creative.

“I quit my job and raised money to film the pilot,” said Scordio. The 28-year-old Scordio still lives in Port.

“Growing up in Port Washington and on the North Shore inspired me,” said Scordio. “Long Island inspired tons of comedic material but there’s also greatness here—the Guggenheims, the Vanderbilts were all right here like us.”

The show is seen through the eyes of James Agnelli, an uptight office worker, who after an embarrassing viral video and a quarter-life crisis, heads back to his family home in Long Island where he finds himself teaming up with a truly amateur production company. The production company chases after fame in this age of frenzied social media where success seems only a click away. From a tanning bed commercial to a gay zombie feature film, every gig is an opportunity for the film crew to create videos that will go viral and get them closer to their idea of Hollywood success. As the series develops, they find that sometimes a little crazy can lead to unexpected success. The show touches on the journey of self-discovery and following your passion in life. It also addresses the growing entertainment industry outside of Hollywood, particularly in the Northeast and on Long Island.

Scordio is inspired by Judd Apatow, another Long Island native. “Apatow is the ultimate inspiration,” said Scordio.

Scordio is in the sitcom, and he also writes, directs and produces the show.

“The show is about a group of goofy misfits staring at greatness in the big city and trying to make their way in a tough business,” said Scordio.

Scordio Productions will be releasing a new video every week for the next few months leading up to their Long Island Lights pilot premiere on June 12, at the SVA Theater, 333 West 23 St., in New York City.

“Being a Port Washington native, I’m so happy to put together a project that brings well-deserved attention to Long Island and was also filmed on Long Island,” said Scordio. “There is a growing film entertainment industry in the area. And I love Port Washington; that’s why I’m still here.”
